Brain diseases come in different forms. Infections, trauma, stroke, seizures, and tumors are some of the major categories of brain diseases. Here's an overview of various diseases of the brain.

Brain Diseases: Infections

Brain diseases in the category of infections include:

1. Meningitis: An inflammation of the lining around the brain or spinal cord, usually due to infection; Neck stiffness, headache, fever, and confusion are common symptoms.
2. Encephalitis: An inflammation of the brain tissue, usually due to a viral infection; meningitis and encephalitis often occur together, which is called meningoencephalitis.
3. Brain abscess: A pocket of infection in the brain, usually caused by bacteria; antibiotics and surgical drainage of the area are often necessary.
4. Toxoplasmosis: The disease is caused by a Toxoplasma gondii parasitic infection that attacks certain organs of the body, including the brain. Some people with toxoplasmosis have no symptoms. However, brain infections due to toxoplasmosis can cause symptoms such as fever, headache, swollen lymph nodes, seizures, loss of consciousness, or impaired coordination.
5. Cerebral malaria: It is a brain infection caused by malaria. This disease usually occurs as a result of complications from untreated malaria. Patients with these brain infections will usually experience several symptoms such as fever, chills, seizures, nausea, vomiting, difficulty speaking, hearing or vision impairment, severe headaches, behavioral changes, and loss of consciousness or coma.
